WELCOME TO THE TENDRING BARBARIANS WEB SITE

Tendring Barbarians started life in 1999 when the Rugby World Cup roadshow rolled into Colchester as part of a nationwide tour before the tournament that had its final at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff.

A day of primary and secondary schools rugby was topped off with a game between Colchester Ravens and a team made up of players from the other five clubs in North East Essex.  Every year since then the Barbarians have played Colchester at the beginning of September as a season curtain raiser, with an extra match last year when the Webb Ellis Cup came to the area.

The concept of Tendring Barbarians is one of cooperation between Brightlingsea, Clacton, Colchester, Harwich & Dovercourt, Mersea Island and Mistley.  Over the past few years the six clubs have worked more closely together, with an informal fixture exchange being set up and players without games turning out for other clubs from time to time.  The most recent collaboration has seen the establishment of a North East Essex Ladies team that trains and plays across the area.

2005 an expansion of fixtures for Tendring Barbarians.  The hope is that Suffolk will become regular opponents, and that an extra annual fixture against Mersea Island at the end of the season will give more local players the chance of representative rugby, and will showcase the game in the area.
