VOLUNTEERING

Volunteers are the lifeblood of any Community Club, and Colchester RFC is no exception.  We always need new people to join the band of volunteers who keep this club running.  Whatever role you take up you will get training and support from the Club.  You will find the experience rewarding, and the club tries to recognise the achievements of its volunteers.  

2005 is the Year of the Volunteer.  Make it the year you get involved in volunteering at Colchester Rugby Club.

COACHING
We run 20 adult, youth and mini teams at Colchester, all of whom need coaches to develop them as players.  We can arrange for you to be mentored by our Director of Coaching and go on an RFU coaching course, and you can join one of the coaching teams.  You can even earn money from coaching by joining our team of schools coaches that visit local primary and secondary schools.  Call Director of Coaching Tim Grimsey on 07811 388291 to find out more.

REFEREEING
Without referees we would not be able to play games.  This applies at every level from minis to veterans rugby.  There is a shortage of referees and we desperately need more people to take up the whistle on Saturdays and Sundays.  We will arrange for you to go on a refereeing course, and we will give you in-house support.  Call Referee Liaison Officer Ross Cowie on 07786 332930.

VOLUNTEER HELPER
There are a lot of people behind the scenes who do countless jobs without which this club could not function.  All roles demand some time commitment, some more than others, but if you can spare as little as an hour per week to help the club let us know.  Contact Andrew Sarek on 07958 138083 if you can help, particularly with the roles listed below.

We urgently need people in the following areas:

• SPONSORSHIP - We need two or three people to devote up to four hours per week mainly in the summer (much less in the season) to help increase our commercial sponsorship revenues by 50% in two years.  We need to spend more money developing rugby in Colchester - to do that we need more revenue.  Volunteers from the youth and mini sections are particularly welcome.  Please contact John Powell on 01376 561633.
  
• FUNDRAISING - Running a club the size of Colchester is an expensive business.  We invest heavily in developing rugby in the area, but it is sometimes difficult to fund the little extras that make being a member of Colchester RFC more fun; Christmas party for the minis, decorations for the clubhouse, minibus hire to give parents an occasional break from driving, specialised training equipment, etc.  We need people to spend an hour or so at a weekend raising funds for things like these - a raffle at every home minis fixture can raise up to £1000 over a season. 
  
• MANAGEMENT - Our Youth & Mini Chairman will be stepping down during 2005.  We want to split the role between a Youth and Minis, so we are looking for two people committed to junior sport to take over the reins.  They will get lots of support from experienced people in the club, but will be able to implement their own ideas about how to keep Colchester RFC at the forefront in developing rugby for children.
