COLCHESTER RUGBY FESTIVALS

Colchester is very fortunate to have a ground with four full size pitches, six minis pitches and two training grids, making it ideal for hosting Rugby Festivals allowing plenty of room for clubs to play, and to warm-up and train between games.

Festivals have been held at the Mill Road ground since the club moved there in 1978, with the Easter Colts Festival being the longest established and the most prestigious. The First Colchester Mini Rugby Festival was held in 1982 and is now the biggest of its kind in the Eastern Counties. The U16 15-a-side Festival was established soon after, but the pressures of studying for GCSEs made it increasingly difficult for clubs to field teams,  so for 2000/01 the format has been changed to 10-a-side at the beginning of the season.

The U14 Festival was first held in 1993 and it has enjoyed a top quality field ever since.

The Under 15 Festival replaced the U16 tournament, and has always been a friendly festival, with many clubs choosing the event as the best way to end the season.

The growth of the Women's game prompted a two-day end of season Ladies Festival to be organised at Colchester in 1994, and was been held annually until the 1999 tournament had to be cancelled because it clashed with too many other National Ladies events.

The newest Festival at the club is for the U17 age group which is being staged for the first time in 2003.
