Primary Schools ]
Rugby has been introduced to schools in and around Colchester and Tendring by Colchester Rugby Club's Schools Development Officer (SDO). Anton Vidler can take the credit for the initial interest, particularly in Primary Schools, and his work has been built upon by Tim Grimsey who is the Club's current SDO.
In recognition of the work Colchester Rugby Club has done bringing the game to local schools, it has three times been awarded the Wilkinson Sword Trophy for The Development of Youth Sport by Colchester & District Sports Council, in 1999, 2002 and 2003, also winning a commendation in 2001.
The Schools Programme is generously sponsored by ACRA Leisurewear and Sportsmatch.
