TAG RUGBY ROADSHOW
On the 29 November 1999, Colchester RFC hosted a Tag Rugby Roadshow for local Primary Schools. The children took part in running, passing and handling skills as well as playing in a game of Tag Rugby. They were joined by the Saracens Community Development Team and British Lion and England International Richard Hill and fellow flanker Ben Cole. The day was filmed by Sky Sports who broadcast the event later that week.
Over 200 children took part in relays, "Gladiators" games, End Ball and Auckland Stars as well as watching a video about the Saracens team. Coaches from Colchester RFC made sure that the day ran smoothly. The roadshow was held to launch the sponsorship of Primary Schools rugby by the Colchester Oaks Hospital, communications company ntl: and SportsMatch. Each child went away with a goody bag with Saracens pens, stickers and programmes, and well as a free ticket to watch Saracens vs Bath to be played a month later.
Everybody had a great time, and Saracens and Colchester hope to plan more joint events in the future. See below for pictures of the day.
