Colchester first team captain Jay Duder, along with fellow players Joe Brewster and Danny Johnston, took part in a photoshoot at the Dog & Pheasant pub to promote Breast Cancer Awareness month. More information about the campaign in the press release below.
The players spent an hour being photographed drinking pink beer with the Hungry Horse mascot. They will be rewarded with Hungry Horse t-shirts and meal vouchers.
PRESS RELEASE
Colchester Rugby Club
players will be drinking pink beer this October to support a Hungry Horse breast
cancer awareness campaign. Throughout October, the pub chain will donate --
percent of national sales from pink pints of beer and cocktails to CancerBACUP,
the UK’s leading cancer information charity.
Commenting on the
initiative, Club Director of Rugby, Andrew Sarek, said: “Most of us know
someone who has been affected by cancer, either directly or indirectly. We are
always happy to do whatever we can to help raise health awareness within our
local community and feel that this is an especially worthwhile cause. As an
added bonus, we can also lend our support whilst indulging in some well deserved
rest and relaxation.”
Breast cancer is one of the
most common forms of cancer in the UK, with 40,700 new cases diagnosed each
year. One in nine women will develop breast cancer at some point in their
lifetime, and four in five of them will be over 50. Men can also get breast
cancer but it is rare (around 300 cases are diagnosed each year). The good news
is that – thanks to earlier detection and improved treatment – breast cancer
death rates in the UK have fallen by a fifth in the last ten years*. Fund
raising initiatives throughout October raise valuable money for research and
support services.
